RQ: You really had some trouble making it across the finish line?
NB:
I just wanted to make it across. It's the weirdest feeling, I've never had it before. It was like, I can't even explain it. My legs just felt like Jell-O. I was like, 'Whooaa.' I was telling a different reporter that I've seen video of girls who are in first place the whole way and then all of the sudden, just drop. I was like, if anything, 'Just cross the finish line, I don't care what place.' Whoa, cramp (reaches for her leg). So that's what I did. What can you do? (shrugs shoulders)

RQ: Did you feel alright warming up and everything?
NB:
Yeah, I felt awesome the past three days. And my training been awesome, too, so I was really looking forward to this race. It was all the way until [2.5 miles], when you go down the hill, that's when I felt it. I was like 'Ohhhhh boy, maybe it will go away, it's just the hill.' That's probably like what, 600 meters (to go)? So the rest of the way, I was just struggling to finish.

RQ: Up to that point, had the race gone as planned?
NB:
Yeah, I was feeling awesome. I was in good position. I was up in the front pack. I was feeling very confident at that point.

RQ: Did the medical doctors give you any feedback?
NB:
They didn't really tell me, but I'm pretty sure I was dehydrated because I hadn't been drinking a lot. You come from the humidity in the Northeast and then you come here and it's really dry. Everybody faces that problem, but I guess I just didn't really prepare for that.

RQ: So, you're just a sophomore.
NB:
Yeah, I've got a few more times, each time I'm coming back and learning more and more. It should be better each time, so I'm looking forward to the next few years.

RQ: You have a really good [outlook]. Every time I talk to you, you have an upbeat attitude all the time.
NB:
Yeah. I made it here to San Diego and it's just awesome to come here. It would have been nice to have the best race I could have had. At [the Northeast Regional], I felt awesome. I wanted to come here and feel that way, but you can't always have your best race. I've had a great time here. I've learned a lot these past few years so if anything, this experience is going to help me.

RQ: Last year, you were looking forward to track. This year, are you looking forward to indoor track?
NB:
Yeah, definitely. There are a lot of events that I got to do last year that made it really exciting, Millrose and all that. They're all good times, so I'm looking forward to that.

RQ: Any records in the future?
NB:
Hopefully. If I keep on the right path and all goes well, hopefully.
