Post-Race Interview with Ben True
By Ricky Quintana

Ben True, a senior at Greely High School in Cumberland, Maine, finished fifth at the 2003 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in 15:02. The Dartmouth-bound runner (and cross country skier) improved upon his ninth-place finish of a year ago. Two weeks earlier, True won the Foot Locker Northeast Regional.

Ricky Quintana: What can you say about this race?
Ben True:
It went all right. It wasn't my day. I started my kick a little too late so I wasn't able to catch back up to everyone else. Overall, it was a good race.

RQ: You were up there for a little while. Can you go over what happened?
BT:
They just started to pull away and I didn't have it right then. The second lap, the last mile, I tried to pick it back up and catch up and everyone was just too far ahead of me.

RQ: How do you assess this performance here?
BT:
It's all right (laughs).

RQ: Last year, you had a top-10 showing and this year, I'm not sure what you finished.
BT:
I finished fifth, so I'm excited about the improvement.

RQ: What do you expect for the track season?
BT:
Track season has always been a sport to work on speed. I might do one big race, but nothing too major.

RQ: I know you are a cross country skier. You have that to look forward to now.
BT:
I'm excited about that. I start a new season tomorrow...
