When Tim Nelson won his first California Division V State Cross Country title as a sophomore, officials had to review the tape to determine the winner. This year, he had a little more room to spare, finishing in 15:35, 12 seconds ahead of Henry Hagenbuch to grab his second straight title. His time was the fourth fastest of the day. He got to race the three runners who had faster times - Yong-Sung Leal, Billy Nelson and Carl Dambkowski - at the West Regional. All four runners qualified for the National Finals.
