MensRacing.com Interview with Tim Moore (September 2001)

After finishing eighth (15:13) at the 2000 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships, Tim Moore is the top returning runner in 2001. Moore, however, is quick to pass the "favorite" status on to someone else. He told Runner's World Online recently, "Guys like Bobby Lockhart (from Virginia), some other guys from the South, and people from all over the country, have been running sweet times... I just barely became the top returner by a few seconds, so it wasn't like I was way ahead of every other junior or sophomore in that race. Bobby Curtis from Kentucky and Lockhart were right behind me." But Moore won November 24's Midwest Regional so, like it or not, he'll have to at least be considered one of the top contenders heading into the National meet.

In 2000, Moore ran in the shadow of his teammate Chris Toloff, not winning a single race all season but going on to finish second at the Midwest Regional (behind Michigan's Dathan Ritzenhein) and eighth at Nationals. Moore has remained undefeated this season, winning the Division I Michigan State Meet for the first time (by 24 seconds), as well as winning numerous invitationals and his country and regional meets.

Other Notes:
...Moore has signed a letter of intent to attend Notre Dame, where he will join his former high school teammate Kevin Avenius... Carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average... Finished fourth in the two-mile at the 2001 adidas Outdoor Track & Field Championships, running 9:03.84 and anchored the Novi 4 x Mile relay to a national title... Played soccer and basketball before deciding to focus on running year-round in high school.
