Fast-Women.com Interview with Natasha Roetter (July 2001) After finishing fourth at last year's Foot Locker Nationals, Natasha Roetter is the top returning runner in 2001**. Roetter, however, is taking a more low-key approach, claming that her main goal was just to qualify for a return trip to Florida and have fun. As reluctant as Roetter is to make predictions or place expectations on herself, she has had an undefeated season thus far and has consistently run faster times than last year. She earned a repeat victory at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional, winning by 11 seconds in 17:48 -- her closest race of the season. High school running fans in her home state of Massachusetts have grown accustomed to seeing Roetter out front, 30 or more seconds ahead of the pack. Everyone seems to know who "Natasha" is, and even the opposing teams' supporters cheer for her, because they know that no one is going to catch her. After running a disappointing team race at the 2000 State Meet, she and her Lexington teammates set their sights on winning in 2001. Led by Roetter (who defended her individual title, running 36 seconds faster than the previous year) and followed by seniors Samantha Smith (4th) and Catalina Palfreman (7th), Lexington avenged their 2000 loss and ended up with a #15 national ranking. (**Laura Zeigle, who finished third last year, would have held that distinction but failed to advance from the West Regional after dropping out around two miles.) Other
