Laura Stanley (1st, South)

Hometown: Fletcher, NC
High School: Carolina Day School
Year of Graduation: 2002

After finishing 11th (17:39) at the 2000 Foot Locker Nationals and winning this year's Foot Locker South Regional, Laura Stanley is aiming for a top-five finish at this year's Nationals. She used a well-timed kick to win the South Regional in 17:34, just ahead of Carly Matthews (17:35) and Kara Scanlin (17:36).

Stanley's athletic talents extend beyond just running. She has also played point guard for her school's basketball team, was the leading midfielder on the soccer team and led the field hockey team in scoring when she played in middle school. Last spring she reported that she would be giving up soccer this fall to concentrate fully on cross country for the first time.
