Julie Allen ran the race of her life at the 2001 Foot Locker West Regional to finish third and advance to the Foot Locker National Finals. "I just wanted to do justice to the race," Allen told the Los Angeles Times. "All of my other races [this season], it's just been a case of me going out there and running. Of me cruising. Today, I was thinking about pushing myself with every step ... I needed to go past [the pain]." Allen will be making her first trip to Nationals after finishing 21st at last year's West Regional.

Allen won the CIF South Section Division III Cross Country Championship before taking second to Jenna Timinsky in the Division III race at the California State Meet. Timinsky and Allen went back and forth all season, before Allen got the final say at the Foot Locker West Regional. (Timinsky had an off day, finishing 12th.)
