Fast-Women.com Interview with Jackie Zeigle (November 2001)

Heading into the 2001 Foot Locker West Regional, it seemed that two Zeigles - twins Laura and Jackie - had a shot at qualifying for the National Finals. Laura was already a two-time qualifier who finished 12th nationally in 1999 and 3rd in 2000. She was expected to contend for a national title. Jackie, on the other hand, had finished 41st at the 2000 West Regional. She had run well during the regular season and seemed to have a chance at joining sister Laura at Nationals if she ran a great race. And a great race it was. Jackie ran 18:19 on the hilly Mt. SAC course to take fourth and earn her first trip to nationals. Laura, on the other hand, had a rough day, dropping out around the two-mile mark, feeling weak.

In mid-October, Jackie took second at the Utah 5-A State Championships, running 18:12 and finishing 24 seconds behind Laura. She tuned up for the West Regional by finishing second to Laura - this time only ten seconds back - at the Pre-Foot Locker West meet November 10.

Back in September, Jackie finished fourth (18:01) at the Great American Cross Country Festival against some strong national competition. Laura finished right behind her in 18:07.

Other Notes:
