Brooke Stewart (8th, South)

Hometown: College Station, TX
High School: A&M Consolidated High School
Year of Graduation: 2003

After she finished eighth at the 2001 Texas 5A State Meet, compared to second in 2000, Brooke Stewart seemed like an unlikely repeat qualifier. She had run well all season, but not quite as well as she had one year ago leading up to her fifth-place South Regional finish and 29th-place National finish. But Stewart was determined. She knew what she would be missing out on if she didn't return to Orlando for the Foot Locker National Finals. So she did what she had to do -- she put herself in the lead pack at the South Regional and made sure that no more than seven girls finished in front of her. And now she's headed to Orlando, where she'll try to improve on that 29th-place finish of a year ago.

Other Notes:
...Eight of this years qualifiers, Stewart included, ran in last year's National Finals. Seventeen of last year's qualifiers graduated and seven failed to qualify...
