After finishing 29th at the 2000 Foot Locker Northeast Regional, Ben Stern organized his training differently this year with an aim of peaking at the regional. It worked. Stern finished eighth at the 2001 Regional, earning a spot at the National Finals for the first time.

Other Notes:
...Finished second in the Foot Locker Northeast Regional sophomore race in 1999... Is the first Maryland boy to qualify since 1995...
