Allen
Bader (3rd, Midwest)
Hometown:
Cincinnati, OH
High School: La Salle High School
Year of Graduation: 2002
After missing out
on a Nationals berth by one place and two seconds last year, Allen Bader
has to be relieved by his third-place national-qualifying run at the 2001
Foot Locker Midwest Regional. The La Salle High School senior ran 15:28
on the muddy course, earning his first trip to Nationals.
Earlier this fall,
Bader defended his Division I Ohio State Meet Championship, joining a
short, elite list of two-time winners in Division I: Bob Kennedy (1986-87)
and J.J. White (1991-92). It was a close victory, however, as Bader outkicked
Hudson's Wesley Smith by just two tenths of a second.
Other
Notes:
...Bader is the fourth La Salle (OH) High School runner to qualify for
the National meet since 1979. Doug Bockenstette finished seventh in 1993;
Dean Fulmer was sixth in 1994, and Steve Padgett was ninth in 1999...
The LaSalle team has been ranked as high as number one in the country
this fall but ended up with a number six final ranking... Bader finished
20th in the Foot Locker Midwest Freshman/Sophomore race in 1999, running
16:54 (results)...
