Future Richmond Spider Caitlin Chock runs 10:30.1 for two miles

From the University of Richmond

(January 24, 2004) Running as a tune-up for the February 7 USATF World Jr Cross Country Trials race, University of Richmond bound senior Caitlin Chock (Granite Bay High School, CA) showed the nation that she is ready for the competition by blazing through a two-mile race in 10:30.1 (10:26.5 - 3,200m) at the Diablo Valley College All-Comers Track & Field Meet today. In the rarely contested English distance the future Spider and California distance ace was pushed by Thomas Dileo (Unattached/Oakland HS) in the mixed gender race. After clocking a 5:13.8 first Mile, Chock ran even splits in route to her nation leading scholastic performance. She looked relaxed and confident as she continued to press to the finish.

"I was very pleased, and I felt very controlled," said Chock. "It was my first track race in a long time and it felt good. My coach just wanted me to get in a tune-up before the USATF World Cross Country Team trials."

Chock's two-mile performance (10:30.1) currently ranks as the top scholastic time in the nation for two miles with Jessie Wilcox's (Mt. Ararat, ME) 11:05.87 ranking second. When converted to 3,200m, Chock's effort equates to 10:26.5 and also ranks number one on the scholastic list in front of 2003 Footlocker Cross Country All-American Frances Koons' (Central Catholic HS, PA) performance of 10:43 at the East Stroudsburg Invitational.
