Sarah Bowman, who would also run the 800m final later in the day, won the first 1,500 prelim in 4:32.71 and Erin Bedell (4:33.16) finished second.
Sarah Schwald won the second heat in 4:13.25 and Jen Toomey finished a close second in 4:13.26. Only three athletes did not advance from this prelim, and unfortunately one of them was Culpepper.
