Briana Shook shot straight to the lead in the first heat of the 3,000m steeplechase. The field was small enough that only three runners were going to be eliminated in the prelims.
R-L: Amanda Thornberry, Kirsten Anthony, and Dacia Barr in the second junior 1,500m prelim. Only two runners were eliminated in the first round.	Everyone in the second heat wound up advancing. Alison Smith (4:34.10) won the second heat. Barr (4:34.98) and Thornberry (4:35.32) finished second and third.	Briana Shook shot straight to the lead in the first heat of the 3,000m steeplechase. The field was small enough that only three runners were going to be eliminated in the prelims.	Shook had her right ankle wrapped, but it didn't seem to be holding her back. She won the first prelim in 10:07.37.	Carrie Messner was the only runner in the race who really went after shook. She finished second in 10:11.96.
