Eventual third-place finisher Victoriya Ganushina of Warren Street warms up for the NYRR Team Championships. Ali Bergstrom, 28, of the Achilles Track Club was the lone wheelchair competitor in the race. The women's race had 435 finishers. The temperature at race time was 75 degrees with 82% humidity. Much like the men's race, members of the Westchester Track Club shot out to an early lead. The difference in the women's race, though, was that one runner, Alemtsehay Misganaw, dominated.

Misganaw's teammate, Leteyesus Berhe, stayed close for less than a mile. After that, Misganaw was on her own. Misganaw, 24, of New York City is a frequent local (and not so local) race winner. She was in a class of her own today as she pulled away from her teammate and did a solo loop of Central Park. The first mile features a big downhill followed by a big uphill around the north end of Central Park. Though she was working hard, Misganaw made the uphill look easy. This race, held annually, pits many of New York's best running teams against one another.

Team members who weren't competing - or who had already competed in the men's race - cheered from the sidelines. As she made the turn onto the 72nd street transverse, not long before the three-mile mark, Misganaw took a long look back... ...and either saw her teammate, Leteyesus Berhe, or nothing but empty road. Misganaw seemed to ease up a bit in the final mile, but she still won the race with room to spare in 28:18. Leteyesus Berhe made up some ground on Misganaw in the final mile and finished second in 28:50.
