Lindsey Gallo hung onto her lead and won the second prelim in 4:44.66. Anne Shadle (4:45.03) and Heidi Magill (4:45.14) also advanced automatically. Ioana Parusheva (on the far left, running out of the frame) finished fourth in 4:45.14 to advance, and Jemissa Hess (4:45.87, behind Magill) also advanced. Lindsey Gallo looked great, like a favorite for Saturday's final. Jessica Eldridge (sixth, 4:46.63) had the distinction of being the fastest non-qualifier.
