Columbia's Caroline Bierbaum finished second to NAU's Johanna Nilsson in 19:46.0. Notre Dame's Stephanie Madia, who had looked strong all season, finished third in 19:48.4. Butler's Victoria Mitchell, a native of Australia but a local favorite from Butler University, finished fourth in 19:50.4. Mitchell edged out Duke's Clara Horowitz, 19:50.4 to 19:50.7. Horowitz led Duke to a third-place finish. Heading in to the meet, they were favored to win the national title... ...but a few of Duke's runners weren't as far up as they and others expected them to be. Arianna Lambie of Stanford finished eighth in 19:59.1 and led her team to a surprise victory. We didn't see it with our own eyes, but a reliable source told us that Lynn Jennings, who, like Lambie, is an alumna of The Bromfield School in MA, was at the meet, cheering for Lambie. Christine Bolf (right) of CU and Keira Carlstrom of American University both passed Lambie just before the finish line.

Carlstrom finished sixth in 19:58.1 and Bolf finished seventh (and led CU to a second place finish) in 19:58.8. Liza Pasciuto had another clutch performance for CU for the second year in a row. The sophomore moved up four places from last year to finish ninth in 20:01.2. Princeton's Cack Ferrell, a senior, finished 10th in 20:03.1. Cassie Hunt (leading Katie Gwyther), a junior at Illinois, finished 11th in 20:05.0. Katie Gwyther, a senior at Quinnipiac was in the midst of the season she probably always knew she had in her.

If there were a best newcomer of the year (to the top of the NCAA XC ranks), she would have earned it. She finished 12th in 20:05.5. Arizona's Amy Hastings, a senior, finished 13th in 20:09.0. Washington State's Haley Paul (14th, 20:11.9) leads Notre Dame's Molly Huddle (15th, 20:13.0). Huddle leads UCLA's Ashley Caldwell (16th, 20:13.6) and Wake Forest's Annie Bersagel (17th, 20:14.0). Bersagel is a senior at Wake Forest.
