Marie Davenport (front) and Amy Mortimer make the turn as well. Davenport, an Irish citizen who lives in Connecticut, was the race's defending champion. 2005 USA 10,000m champion Katie McGregor leads a group of women.

The race featured at least three relatively sharp turns. Though it only rained off and on throughout the race (and more heavily at the end), the streets were still quite wet. After hardly getting any rain all fall, Boston was in the midst of a rainy spell.
