Just past the 1K mark, Colleen De Reuck had taken over the lead, Blake Russel ran in second place, and Jen Rhines in third. |
De Reuck, 40, was old enough to compete in the masters' race which would be held later in the day, but she is still among the best open runners in the U.S. |
De Reuck, Russell, and Rhines all played key roles in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in April 2004. |
De Reuck won the race, Russell led most of the way, and Rhines outkicked Russell for the third spot on the team. |
