In the late stages of the race, Lauren Fleshman moved into second place. |
Amy Rudolph ran in third place. |
And Carrie Tollefson ran in fourth. |
With one lap to go, Flanagan was still out front, Fleshman continued to run in second, and Rudolph was in third. |
Flanagan won her first U.S. national title on the track in 15:10.96 and qualified for the World Championship team. Lauren Fleshman finished second in 15:16.80 and will be on the team if she can get the "A" standard within the qualifying window. |

Sara Bei, now running for Asics, finished a solid sixth in 15:24.74 in her first race as a professional runner. |
Amy Rudolph (congratulating Shalane Flanagan) finished third in 15:18.92 and qualified for the World Championship team (like Flanagan, she already has the "A" standard). |
After just three heats of the 400 hurdles, Carrie Tollefson (right) was back in action in the 1,500 prelims. She didn't make the team in the 5,000 (she was fifth in 15:24.13) so she was back to give it another try, without much rest. |
Treniere Clement (second from right) won the first 1,500m heat in 4:13.95. All but two athletes advanced from this heat. Unfortunately, Tollefson was one of the ones who didn't. |
Tiffany McWilliams led the second heat early on. As the sun went down, getting decent photos became more of a challenge. |

Shayne Culpepper was in the same boat as Tollefson - she had finished fourth in the 5,000 and would only be on the World team if Lauren Fleshman didn't get her "A" standard. So Culpepper was back to try again, shortly after the 5,000 final. |
Tiffany McWilliams and Jen Toomey lead Arianna Lambie (mostly obscured) and Sarah Schwald. |
Sarah Schwald won the second heat in 4:13.25 and Jen Toomey finished a close second in 4:13.26. Only three athletes did not advance from this prelim, and unfortunately one of them was Culpepper. |
R-L: Erin Bedell, Lauren Centrowitz, Caitlin Lane, Kasey Kimball, and Sarah Bowman early on in the first junior 1,500m prelim. |
Sarah Bowman, who would also run the 800m final later in the day, won the first 1,500 prelim in 4:32.71 and Erin Bedell (4:33.16) finished second. |

R-L: Amanda Thornberry, Kirsten Anthony, and Dacia Barr in the second junior 1,500m prelim. Only two runners were eliminated in the first round. |
Everyone in the second heat wound up advancing. Alison Smith (4:34.10) won the second heat. Barr (4:34.98) and Thornberry (4:35.32) finished second and third. |
Briana Shook shot straight to the lead in the first heat of the 3,000m steeplechase. The field was small enough that only three runners were going to be eliminated in the prelims. |
Shook had her right ankle wrapped, but it didn't seem to be holding her back. She won the first prelim in 10:07.37. |
Carrie Messner was the only runner in the race who really went after shook. She finished second in 10:11.96. |
