Heading to the finish, McKayla Plank of Iona held a slight lead over Nicole Blood (mostly obscured). This race was a breakthrough one for Plank. She became the first Iona runner ever to qualify for the World Junior team. Plank was unable to hold onto her lead, though, and Nicole Blood passed her just before the tape. Plank finished second in 20:46. New York's Nicole Blood won in 20:45. Later that day, she caught a plane to California, where she will finish out her final semester of high school. Her stepfather's job was relocated to the Simi Valley area. The top six finishers crossed the line within three seconds of one another. Erin Bedell finished fifth in 20:48.
