Heading to the finish, McKayla Plank of Iona held a slight lead over Nicole Blood (mostly obscured). |
This race was a breakthrough one for Plank. She became the first Iona runner ever to qualify for the World Junior team. |
Plank was unable to hold onto her lead, though, and Nicole Blood passed her just before the tape. Plank finished second in 20:46. |
New York's Nicole Blood won in 20:45. Later that day, she caught a plane to California, where she will finish out her final semester of high school. Her stepfather's job was relocated to the Simi Valley area. |
The top six finishers crossed the line within three seconds of one another. Erin Bedell finished fifth in 20:48. |
